6 Best Places To Eat in Bratislava, Slovakia

Last month I visited Slovakia's capital city, Bratislava!

To be perfectly honest I went with low expectations as in my opinion, it is not a very popular tourist destination that I hear of many people visiting, however, my expectations were greatly exceeded. With its attractive sights, quirky vintage shops and its stunning cathedral, Bratislava has a lot to offer but the best part of my trip was of course the food.

I can honestly say there was not a single meal that I had in the five days I was there that wasn't exceptional and well above average, but if I told you about every single place I ate at this short post would turn into a novel, so instead I've selected the most memorable six...

6. Pollito Cheesecake

I am a lover of all things sweet (especially chocolate) meaning that I always have room for dessert and one of my favourite desserts of all time is cheesecake which is why it was imperative for me to visit Pollito. The cafe offered a small but an amazing selection of cheesecakes which I struggled to choose from but ended up opting for the chocolate and raspberry one which was topped with pomegranates and biscoff biscuit crumbs which I washed down with a fresh lemonade.

5. KOUN

Before visiting Bratislava, I had read many reviews by tourists claiming that KOUN served "the best ice-cream in town" so, subsequently I went to decide for myself.

They were right.

With a great selection of surprising flavours (with vegan options) at a fairly cheap price, KOUN definitely managed to serve me the best ice-cream I've ever had! I went for the hazelnut flavour which tasted exactly like the inside of a Kinder Bueno (insert drooling emoji).

4. Five Points

I know this blog is supposed to be exclusively about food, however, the reason that Five Points has made it to this list is not to do with its food (although I did have a slice of their amazing cheesecake) but is because of their coffee. Five Points without a doubt provided me with the best cup of coffee I had during my time in Bratislava and no it isn't because my face was on it (although it was very cool). In addition to being the only place to serve a 'selfiecinno', Five Points was also the only place that seemed to serve one of my favourite cocktails- a White Russian, which is also why it has made it on this list.

3.  Urban House

Similarly to KOUN, Urban House is a restaurant that is branded by most tourists as a "must visit"and so I listened to the majority and paid it a visit. Once again the reviews were absolutely spot-on as Urban House was everything I expected it to be and more. With its chilled/laid-back atmosphere, trendy decor and delicious food and cocktails, its somewhere I could visit regularly and repeatedly and it would definitely be my go-to restaurant if it existed in Glasgow.

I ordered the ''NDUJA Pizza" (pizza topped with spicy sausage, mascarpone, baby mozzarella, rocket, grana padano and garlic oil) and a frozen mango daiquiri. Everything was amazing and was a solid 10/10. Although I didn't have them, the coffee and brunch dishes also looked amazing and many people rave about them!

2. Street Food & Cafe Possonium

The Street Food & Cafe Possonium offers a variety of different street food options and a bar service with indoor and outdoor seating. It is also connected to a hostel which is where I actually stayed for the duration of my visit which I would also recommend if your looking for cheap and clean accommodation in Bratislava.
Most importantly however, the food was out of this world!

I have consumed MANY burgers in my 20 years of life and I can say without a doubt that this was the best burger I haver ever I had - I promise! So good in fact I squeezed in time for one before heading to the airport to go home.

In addition to being delicious, the food is also relatively cheap and prepared quickly which is always a bonus!

1. Mondieu

Mondieu is well known in Bratislava for its amazing coffee and its wide variety of delicious breakfast dishes which I had the pleasure of trying a couple of times during my stay in the city. There are multiple Mondieu bistros located in Bratislava's Old Town with the menus slightly varying in each.

The first time I went I had sweet french toast topped with berries, maple syrup, icing sugar and fresh cream and it was unreal and I actually managed to finish the full thing despite the large portion size.

On my second visit I opted for a healthier option as I got a smoothie bowl which was the first one I had ever had and it was really good and surprisingly filling.

I also had their freshly squeezed orange juice both times and it was honestly incredible!

The desserts also looked AMAZING but I sadly never got the chance to try them.

If you haven't been to Bratislava I strongly recommend you consider paying it a visit as it truly is a beautiful city with incredible food! Should you find yourself there, I suggest you try some of the places on this list as they really were some of the best places I have ever eaten at!

Until Friday,
B x

Big Feed, Glasgow

For my final blog post I’ve come full circle and back to the place where my blog began – Glasgow. I had originally planned to post about a different city in every post but this was too good not to share with you all and so this week’s post is about Scotland’s biggest indoor street food market- Big Feed. Big Feed (like I said) is a street food market located in Govan and takes place every couple of weeks. It offers a wide selection of street food varying from Greek kebabs to loaded hot dogs and even churros, with the stalls varying each time the event is held.  In addition to the assortment of delicious food stalls and bar service, Big Feed also provides entertainment with live music and DJs and also retro video games, meaning there is truly something for everyone (they even have dog treats for your pets). There is a small fee of £2 to gain entry into the market however, free parking is available onsite and the food is also reasonably priced for what you...

Mercado de San Miguel, Madrid

In my previous blog posts I've expressed my love for various things including Spanish tapas, street food and my greatest love of all, dessert. Therefore, this week's blog post will centre around a place which offers it all- the famous 'Mercado de San Miguel' (or the Market of San Miguel in English). This gastronome's paradise is located in Madrid's old quarter and is one of the most popular and oldest food markets in Madrid as it dates back to the early 1900's. The market offers a wide selection of food with there being over twenty different stalls serving the likes of tapas, antipasto, paella, seafood dishes, fresh fruit, sweet pastries and even alcohol. The centre of the market acts as a dining area where everyone can sit together to enjoy their food. With there being such a huge variety of stalls to choose from I really struggled to decide which ones to eat from but I ended up having bruschetta with mozzarella, chicken and chorizo paella (t...
